A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO BRING LEGISLATION ON THE JULY 9, 2026 CITY COMMISSION MEETING RELATED TO INCREASING THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE MIAMI TREE ORDINANCE ADVISORY COMMITTEE, PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE XI, DIVISION 2, SECTION 2-883 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED, FROM TEN (10) TO ELEVEN (11) TO INCLUDE THE APPOINTMENT OF ONE MEMBER FROM THE CLIMATE RESILIENCE COMMITTEE.

WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. R-26-0229, adopted on May 14, 2026, the City Commission established the Miami Tree Ordinance Advisory Committee (β€œCommittee”) composed of members representing the City's various districts and diverse perspectives regarding tree protection, urban canopy preservation, neighborhood character, resiliency, and quality of life; and

WHEREAS, during the discussion of the implementation of the Stormwater Parks Offering Natural Green-Infrastructure Enhancement (β€œSPONGE”) Program Initiative during the City Commission meeting on June 25, 2026, City Commission directed the City Manager to bring forth legislation to expand the membership of the Committee to include participation by City’s Climate Resilience Committee as an at-large member; and

WHEREAS, this Resolution is necessary so that the City Manager and Administrative staff can move forward with commencement of the Committee to begin meeting regularly; and

WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 2-33(f) of the City Code, the City Commission, by a majority vote, hereby deems this Resolution to be of an urgent nature due to the necessary actions to take place before the Committee can commence;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:

Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.

Section 2.Β  The City Manager is directed to bring legislation on the July 9, 2026, City Commission meeting related to increasing the membership of the Committee, pursuant to Chapter 2, Article XI, Division 2, Section 2-883 of the City Code, from ten (10) to eleven (11) to include the appointment of one member from the Climate Resilience Committee as an at large member.

Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately.
